Which cushion level is best for you?
It all comes down to feel. That’s why some people like to keep all three cushion weights on hand.

Shop Max CushionThe 5 Factors of Cushion
Run through them and the right level usually becomes clear.
Temperature
Thicker socks hold more material, so they generally insulate more in cool weather. Thinner socks breathe and dry faster in hot weather.
Shoe Fit
This is the factor people forget. A sock and a shoe share the same space. Think about how your shoes fit (and don’t forget that your feet swell as you run).
Distance
Activity, distance, and pace all influence how much cushioning feels right. Longer distances and days call for more cushion; less cushioning offers a faster, more responsive feel.
Terrain
Hard surfaces send repetitive, concentrated impact into the foot, while treadmills have padding built in. Plusher cushion protects feet best.
How it Feels
The Most Important Factor
The best cushion level is ultimately the one that feels right underfoot. Some runners love feeling connected to the ground. Others wouldn't trade the comfort of a plush ride, even in hot weather. Neither preference is right or wrong.
